Default Help in Burning CD

This has to do with the format of the audio cd I am trying to
burn......
I had to do a system restore on my XP and then I restored the original
applications on it.
(I never had a problem before burning CD's in the right format where I
can play it on my stereo afterward.) But now, when I try to burn an
audio cd, it records it in a format that is not playable on my stereo.
Is there a setting that I need to change somewhere? Would appreciate
anyone's help.

You'd be more likely to get a useful answer if you provided some useful
details. We're not mind readers, you know.

What program do you use to burn? What settings are you using? What kind
of files are you trying to burn? What format is getting burnt to CD?
What error messages are you getting? What have you done to try to fix
it already?

I use either the Windows Media Player or Real Player that is on my XP.
I copy the music from the CD into a playlist and then I burn it from
there. I can play the burnt CD on my computer, but when I try to play
it on my stereo, it won't play. I don't know much about burning audio
cd's, but isn't all music in an audio format already? And wouldn't it
save as an audio into my playlist and then from there to the cd?

We're left to guess - which is not much fun and not very productive.

Take a look at the disc in Explorer. If you have files (WAV, MP3, etc.),
then you burned a data disc, not an audio disc. If you have .CDA "files"
then you tried to write audio but something else went wrong - you'll
have to give us more information for us to help. The way to get an audio
disc depends on the software you are using to master it.

You may get help by checking one of the usual references: the CD-R FAQ
or the primer at my WWW site.

Hi, thanks for replying...my name is Rosemary..i don't know much about
recording cds off of the computer.....

I use either Windows Media Player or Real Player to burn cd's. I
start with saving the music from a cd into a playlist then I take that
cd out and put a cd-rw disc in to burn from there. I can play the
burnt cd on my computer, but when I try to play it on my stereo, it
won't play.
Wouldn't all music be saved and recorded as audio automatically?
Anyways, I used to be able to record off of this same exact music cd
and play the burnt cd on my stereo with no problem.....but now it
doesn't. And it seems to coincide with my having to do this system
restore on my computer. Its almost like the computer got reset to
record it differently...I don't know. I sing for my church and I used
to record certain songs off of this cd - but now I can't do it.

Try burning to CD-R instead of CD-RW. If still no go, try uninstall and
reinstall of Real, and then use Real to burn.

Uninstall: Start Control Panel Add/Remove programs.

Few CD players - particularly those in a "stereo" - will play erasable
discs (CD-RW). Try a regular CD-R.

To the computer, there is no "music"; there are only files, data streams
and the like. So what you saved is a file. It can be written as data
like any other file or can be written to CD-DA (Compact Disc - Digital
Audio) as wht you think of as a "CD".

That's possible, but without knowing more, we cannot guess what that
could have been. You may get more help from someone who uses WMP or
RealPlayer to write; I never have.
