Athlon Barton 2800 Temperatures
Hi all,
I'm not overclocking this chip yet, but I am curious about chip temperatures and whether I will need to reapply a better thermal paste on the chip. I have the Barton 2800 in an older Antec KS-180 case with an Antec SL-400 power supply and a Speeze WhisperRock Heatsink and Fan (with the supplied paste). I also have two Vantec Stealth 92mm fans on order. The Motherboard is an Asus A7V8X-X, with 512mb RAM. I am not overclocking the chip as of yet. Right now, living in the currently very cold Northeast, I am getting 46c-50c in Asus Probe with the case cover on. With the case off, my temperatures are 10-12 degrees lower. I assume that the two low noise case fans will improve the airflow somewhat, and lower the CPU temperature a bit. Is a temperature in the high 40s-50 with a normal load a typical temperature with this AMD chip? Do you suspect that I am also having a problem with my cooler/thermal paste? Thanks in advance, Matt |

Thanks in advance, Matt Sounds like you need better case ventilation, my temps actually rise when i have the cover off. You might also want to try some artic silver on there, but anytihng under 50 degress is 'OK' hamman |

Those temps are nothing at all to worry about.
I'm running my 2800+ at 2.481 GHz on 1.95v-core - and get idle 46/52C load. I run it with sidepanel off, on a Thermalright SK7 (all-copper), with a 52CFM 80mm separated from the sink by a 10mm spacer (which lowers temps by 4-6C). I also have two fans attached to (either side of) the CPU fan (ie - 3 in a row) - but facing upwards to cycle hot CPU air out of the case. Case fans aren't worth the aggro - lots more noise for no temperature gain. "HPLeft" wrote in message . net... I keep reading the review section on newegg where some users are getting temps in the high 30c-low 40c with some of these Athlon processors, and I wasn't clear whether I was facing potential thermal danger later on. My last desktop had a Slot A, Athlon 750, so I'm really out of the loop on these things. Again, thanks everyone for the feedback. Matt C |
