Many ISPs have already killed their Usenet service and servers! So how
could you be sure that Usenet is still that Usenet?

Are we only accessing a local Usenet within our country of residence?

My ISP turned off it's usenet server a few years ago, due to lack of
use.

No proof.

You could sign posts, but please don't. Key exchange is a massive
problem. Even if everyone configured their software to check
which posts had been signed with a valid key, why should I believe
that you are who you say you are? Anybody could have generated a
key using your name.

You claim to be in Hong Kong. I say that I am not. We're both using
news-servers (different ones) which are, or might be, in Germany, where
neither of us is. Probably.

Many countries hate US technology. Some even consider it a sabotage
subversion tool! So it's likely that some countries never join Usenet.

Maybe I should not have think about "international" in the first place,
when even United Nations is not really an international organization.

We all are in Hong Kong.

It is just our configuration file in the Matrix,
that says we are somewhere else. :-D -D

Countries don't join usenet. Individuals post articles, or read them;
that is all. An internet access provider could in theory prevent its
customers from accessing usenet, I suppose; but that would make people a
lot more curious and determined to find ways around any blockages.
Don't forget that usenet predates the internet.
