Default I'm yet another lazy ******* wanting advice on which printer to buy ...

Hello! So I moved and left my old spyware infested printer (Lexmark)
and inherited an Epson printer at my new location. This is when I
learned of their wonderfully evil practice of forcing one to buy color
refills even if just wanting to print in black (and have a full black
cartridge). So rather than buy color refills I'm just going to put the
money toward a new printer that is less determined to bend me over the
table (if such a printer exists). Here is what I need in ten easy steps
....

1. Cheap.

2. I couldn't care less about printing photos. Let me make this as
brutally clear as possibly: If the printer were incapable of printing
photographs, and had only black ink available, I would be perfectly
fine with it. In fact I'd prefer a black only printer really. I hate
color. If someone wants to see a photo I took (which is unlikely as I
rarely take photos -- I prefer to ruin peoples fun in ways other than
making everyone stop what they are doing and pose unnaturally) I'll
mail them a digital copy and they can waste their money printing it
out.

3. If it does have color, I need to be able to print without having a
color cartridge. As I may have mentioned previously, I hate color.

4. I don't care about laser v. inkjet v. whatever. I just need the
cheapest (but still good) printer. I'm willing to accept paying more
now on the understanding that it uses less ink and/or has less
expensive refills and will thus save me money in the longrun. Having
said that, I don't do that much printing, so if it's a $1000 printer
that somehow works out cheaper because it never needs refills, I'm not
interested as I don't print enough to get those savings.

5. I hate color.

6. Bottom line: I just want to print out some words on a piece of
paper. That's it. This has proved too much for my past two printers.
Although, to be fair, the Lexmark did print fairely reliably while it
set about destroying my computer. So it wasn't all negative. Even so, I
just want to print black text on a piece of paper. That's it. Is that
too much to ask? Do I have to resort to a feather and papyrus? IT'S
2006! ... so I realize I may be asking a bit too much. Such a printer
may not be technologically possible until about 2098. Even so, I remain
hopefully. Naively hopeful.

7. **** color.

8. I'm a little angry about this whole Epson scam deal. I needed to
print something very important today and thanks to Epson that isn't
going to happen. I have a brand new full black cartridge and need to
print words. The printer won't let me because the color is empty (this
despite the fact I can hear ink inside them when shaken). *******s.

9. **** Epson.

So thanks for any help. I'm off to slit my wrists. Hey! If I slit my
wrists perhaps I could refill the cartridges with blood and not have to
buy any refills. I just sent Epson technical support a question about
that. I wonder if they have a form letter response for that question.
The cocksuckers.

Have a nice day!

10. **** Epson and **** color.

P.S. I would legitimately appreciate some help in selecting a printer.
Thanks in advance.

I'd second that. If you never use color, laser is the way to go. HP has
some of the best.

I feel your pain. I keep a stable of printers

Wow -- I keep a stable of horses

so I don't get caught
without printing capability. I don't hate color, but I must have black
at all times.
Perhaps you could find a used dot matrix printer and then you only need
to preplace ribbons.
HP 900 series printers will print black only, even when the color cart
is empty. The #45 black cart holds 42mls of ink and lasts a long time.
It refils easily.
You might find one of these old printers at the Salvation Army or the
curb.
Otherwise, the cheap monochrome laser suits you needs. If you don't
print much, it won't be getting clogged like an inkjet.

Hi!

So I take it you hate color?

Go buy an inexpensive laser printer. I like the Samsung models. They do a
good job, seem to be fairly well made and don't cost a fortune to replenish
when needed.

And if you're willing to do it, people are now selling
refilled/remanufactured Samsung toner cartridges. I've had good luck with
the ones I've purchased from local suppliers.

Or--go buy an older inkjet printer. I think an early model DeskJet might be
right up your alley if you want to print with ink and have a printer that's
generally tough as nails and cheap to run. Models like the 560C even have a
color cartridge, but it won't stop you printing when it is empty. ducks

I'd stay away from most of the older Deskjets, like the 500 and 600
series. They often had paper handling problems as they aged, caused by
rollers that glazed and hardened and wouldn't pick up the paper.
