Default Epson 1280 - HELP

I just bought this 1280 printer and I'm having problems printing 4x6
images on Epson's 4x6 Premium Glossy Photo Paper (individually cut
sheets). All print previews display a centered image but the printed
image is not centered.

I'm using Windoz XP Pro. When I come to print a 4x6 image from any
image editing application (photoshop, print shop pro, epson's film
factory, etc) the image is perfectly centered in all previews i.e.,
the applications preview window and also epson's print preview window
but when printed (landscape mode), the right edge of the image is
cropped, the right margin is shorter than the left margin, and the top
of the image is bled off the paper (1/4 in of the image is printed on
the printer tray leaving a smear on the back of the next larger size
paper I use). When I reduce the image size to 3x5, the image is
printed up and to the left by 1/4 inch (the center point is off by 1/4
inch). A funny thing is every image preview has a 1/4 inch margin no
matter what size the image is.

I've tried different resolutions, different size images, portrait
mode, checked and unchecked "Center" and "Maximum", reinstalled the
driver, upgraded the driver, .... Incidentally, in the epson print
preview window, both "Top of Page" and "Bottom of Page" are displayed
in an indistiguishable language.

Epson Tech support has been of no use.

Has anyone experienced problems with images not being centered when
printing on 4x6 or other cut sheet paper?

Roger

Have you made sure you are using the correct page orientation, landscape or
protrait, for the orientation of the photo you are printing?

The Epson 4x6 paper that I have is actually 4.5 x 7. Thus, the printer
cannot print images correctly.

Hmm, in reading this I see you have not mentioned the setting "Borderless"
anywhere, which is the key to this. If you check "Borderless" you should
not be able to toggle either "Center" or "Maximum" since both will be
unavailable.

.... Incidentally, in the epson print
preview window, both "Top of Page" and "Bottom of Page" are displayed
in an indistiguishable language.

A different language? Not good. What driver version are you using, and are
you *positive* it's the right driver?

If you select borderless, and you send it an image with the proper size and
orientation relative to the paper size and orientation selection in the
driver, it should work just fine - be aware, however, that there will
*always* be a slight crop of the image since the driver has to expand the
image slightly to get full bleed coverage. It's just the way this works,
but you'll get the hang of it by not cropping too close at the image sizing
stage.

Thanks so much for your replies.

I've tried printing borderless however it still crops the left edge of
the image (longest edge as it comes out of the printer) more than it
does the other edges. When I have printed a 3x5 image in standard or
maximum mode, CENTERED, the image output is off center (up and to the
left) by 1/4 inch, just as the 4x6 size image has been which is why
the left edge is bled off the paper and the margins are not equal.
And the 3x5 image has been cropped on all sides by 1/4 inch also (this
makes no sense).

I want to be able to print with a border and have the image centered
on the paper (as shown in the Epson Print Preview) with equal margins.
I have the latest driver downloaded from Epson. I've tried this with
both versions of the driver and there is no difference.

Last night I tried 5x7 mode and although it did not bleed the left
edged off the paper, the top and bottom margins are not equal to the
left and right margins AS SHOWN IN ALL PREVIEWS and all sides of image
have been cropped by about 1/4 inch, . . . but it was centered. :]

Has anyone else experiencd these problems? Why not give it a try and
let me know. I certainly appreciate your responses.

I'm sorry, I left out important info. I donwloaded the latest driver
version, 5.21/P. However as I mentioned before the problem exists in
both driver versions. The language may be a different language but it
displays characters I've never seen in any language I know. Yes, this
is odd.

Yes, that was the first thing I checked. Thanks though.

I didn't know there was a "larger" 4x6 size. I'm using Epson's 4x6
Premium Glossy Photo Paper. It's interesting in the reference guide
that the 4x6 size is not listed as an available size for "Premium
Glossy Photo Paper" however for "Photo Paper or Glossy Photo Paper"
4x6 (102mm x 152mm) and 4x6 (113.6mm x 175.4mm) are listed. In the
driver there is no setting for the 4x6 - 113.6 mm x 175.4mm size.
There is a lot of inconsitency here.

The paper I use is exactly 4x6. Thanks.

5.21P is the latest W2K/XP driver, and that's the driver I use in XP. So
far, so good. I see everything in plain English, which leads me to suspect
that you are either using the wrong flavor of Windows for this driver, or
the driver itself is corrupt.

When I send the driver a 4 x6 file, toggle borderless, select EPGPP in
media, designate "Photo Paper 4 x 6 in No Perforations" as the paper size,
and select Print with Preview, I get a full screen 4x6 image in the Preview,
and a borderless 4 x 6 in. full bleed print that is *slightly* cropped, but
it has no white margins. IOW, it does what it is supposed to do.

Delete the driver (uninstall it), and try a re-install to see of this fixes
your "language" issue. Let me know how it works out.
