Default cd-r problems

I have, for many months, been burning cd compilations with very few
problems. Maybe 1 out of 30 disks would not verify using Nero 5.5. But a
couple of days ago I started having problems. Mostly Nero's data
verification would report that it was unable to "mount the written disk".
The last one I burned was unable to perform fixation. I have had these
errors on the 6 or 7 disks I have burned.

Additionally, when I try to read a disk in Windows Explorer I get the
message "F:\ not accessible Incorrct Function". It does this with blank
disks as well. Use to be that when I click the F:\ in explorer and there
was a blank disk I got a message to insert a disk.

Anyone know what is going on?

I use an AMD Athlon, Windows 2000 Pro, Optorite CW4002, and Nero 5.5

Have you changed media since it was working? Regardless of the response
to that, try a blank of the type the manufacturer recommends just to be
sure that that is not the problem.

It may also be dirt in the optics since the problem is changing over
time. You can try blowing it out gently with 'canned air' to determine
if that is the cause. If so, you will have to choose between disassembly
for real cleaning and discarding the drive for a new one.

thanks for the comments. I had begun to wonder what types of maintenence
needed to be done with my recorder. I'll try blowing it out first. Thanks
