Default Will this drive work

Hi, I bought a hitachi 320 gb 3.0. It has no jumper that I can see. I assume
it won't work without the 1.5 jumper setting or is there a way?
thanks

The chipsets that may require setting the jumper, may be ones like
VIA chipsets. Since you have a P4P800, and it has 1.5Gbit/sec ports
on the Intel chip, then the drive and the board should negotiate
the rate. Where it tends not to work, is with some VIA chipsets.
In those cases, installing the "force 150" jumper on the drive,
can help.

PDF page 11 here, has some info. It mentions VIA chipsets as the
ones that can benefit from setting the jumper on the drive. Search
for VT8237 if you cannot find the page.

Like BigJim says, plug it and try. Look in Disk Management, and
see if a new blank drive has appeared.

I'm looking for some thing like "Deskstar T7K500", so
I can check on it.

It does look like Feature Tool, may be the only way to
modify a drive like the T7K500 series. The manual for the
T7K500, shows no jumpers in the usual place.

http://www.hitachigst.com/hdd/suppor..._Guide_210.pdf

If the drive really was stuck in SATA 3.0Gbit/sec mode, you'd
need to find a motherboard that operates the SATA interface
at 3.0Gbit/sec. Then, download the Feature Tool from the
hitachigst.com site, and make the change to the drive
there. And force it to 1.5Gbit/sec mode.

I thought the deal with the drives was, that they shipped
set to 1.5Gbit/sec ? I'm surprised that Hitachi would
be making the same mistake they made when they first
shipped 3.0Gbit/sec drives.

Perhaps the drive is defective, or the cable is bad ?

Paul
