Moving from Gigabyte 8INXP to D875pbz
I would like some advice on moving my present system from a Gigabyte
8INXP to an Intel D875PBZ. Here is my current system configuration: Gigabyte 8INXP 4 GB Ram DDR 266 400 GB ATA Western Digital 7200 RPM drives (raid config) SONY DRU DVD R/RW Tohsiba DVD ROM Yamaha CD R/RW ATI 9700 Pro All In Wonder My question is can I simply pop out the Gigabyte board replace it with the Intel board and since I have all my info on the raid drives expect it to boot up? Am I going to have to back up everything and start from scratch? Thanks for any advice I get, The Edge |

First off, you won't be able to use your RAID configuration on the 875PBZ.
It only supports RAID on the SATA ports. Also, you'll need to have SATA hard drives if you want to use your 3 CD/DVD devices. Normally, installing your old hardware onto a new motherboard and expecting your OS to boot will prove disappointing (for Windows versions, anyway). Usually there are low-level IDE drivers that are installed when you install windows and Windows will expect to see those drivers when it boots up in the new machine. The old drivers may not function with the new chipset/EIDE hardware, and may refuse to boot, presenting a blue screen or BSOD, depending on Windows version. If you use another OS, I can't verify whether or not it would work. Since you didn't specify, I assume your hard drives are in fact Parallel ATA drives. The 875PBZ supports 2 SATA drives and four EIDE drives, and does not support RAID on the EIDE channels. The 875PBZ is also picky about memory (from what I've read - I had no problems with the first batch of chips I tried - 4 x 512MB Kingston ValueRam for 2GB). You might be able to install a PCI RAID EIDE card to get your RAID array functioning, but you'd probably need those drivers installed on the new machine to actually see the disks. You will have better luck an configuration options with Gigabyte 8KNXP. 8
PATA devices, 4 SATA. I have never seen a system booting up after swopping a Intel board with Gigabyte and visa versa. "The Edge" wrote in message om...
