DDR SDRAM and FSB speed
"Daveman750" wrote in message
om... I keep seeing computers advertised with faster FSBs than their memory. For example, computers with 400 MHz FSBs are being sold with PC2100 (I think DDR266, certainly not DDR400) RAM. How can this be without making the 400 MHz FSB completely useless? Is a 120mph car completely useless in a country with 55mph limit? |

Is a 120mph car completely useless in a country with 55mph limit? Or to put it another way, I have a 400FSB board, which is way more than my XP2100 needs. But I had the sense to buy PC3200 memory so I can raise the FSB to silly levels (or at least far higher than my XP2100 needs). If I won the lottery and bought an XP3200, I could just slot that in no probs, so it makes sense to buy one of these boards even if you only get a low-end XP for the moment. But make sure you get at least PC2700 memory otherwise you won't even be able to overclock very far, never mind put a faster CPU in. |

Daveman750 Babbled on and on and on about:
I keep seeing computers advertised with faster FSBs than their memory. For example, computers with 400 MHz FSBs are being sold with PC2100 (I think DDR266, certainly not DDR400) RAM. How can this be without making the 400 MHz FSB completely useless? it just leaves a bit of room for upgrading. When they build it, it is cheaper to put in the pc2100, and the advertisement stating "Upgradeable" or whatever is usually the selling point. -- Wheaty... Gimme the ball... gimme the ball, gimme the ball, gimme, gimme, gimme. |
