A64 3000 venice 754 o/c?
You know your stuff mate.

There is a program that can adjust the clock, but the thing is, this program must have a custom driver for each clock generator chip used on the motherboards. And there are thousands of part numbers for those chips (a company called ICS made many of them). For people who own Nvidia chipset motherboards, Clockgen is able to program the clock for them, as the clock in that case seems to be generated in the chipset somehow. But other chipset brands rely on external clock generator chips. You can try playing with this, but the odds this would work are slim. You can give it a try anyway and see what happens. http://www.cpuid.org/clockgen.php If the program does happen to work, you can use the procedure in my first post, to prepare the board for overclocking. With Clockgen, you could at least get a moderate overclock, until you reach the point of needing more Vcore. You would use Clockgen to change the processor clock from 200MHz, to something higher. ICS was bought by another company (IDT) and this is an example of a clock generator chip. The frequency can be set via the FS0..FS3 pins (which is what the DIP switch motherboards used to connect to). The chip also has SCLK/SDATA, for connection to the motherboard SMBUS (the same bus that reads the timing tables from your DIMMs). What the Clockgen program does, is write stuff via the SMBUS, into the SDATA line. And that is how they can set the clock, while sitting in Windows. http://www.idt.com/products/getDoc.cfm?docID=11479650 So there are other ways, but just not for every motherboard. Paul |
