Default DVD drive

Some times during boots up the BIOS can't seen to find the DVD/CD burner (D
drive) ...when this happens boot up will hang and Window XP will hang. I
don't get any
boot errors..the systems also sluggish once boot up is complete and the D
drive is missing.
I have checked and or switched the data cable and power connectors....but
the problem persists.

Maybe the DVD drives going bad? Or could it be a power supply going bad?

Your help or suggestion are appreciated

Look for some a bios setting that delays bootup for an adjustable amount
of seconds, DFI calls it "Delay for HDD" . It is for exactly what it
looks like you have: A lazy device that doesn't get it's **** together
in time. I've also cured this by disabling "fast memory check", but that
often takes forever, especially if you have lots of ram.
