Default To Barton or not to Barton; That is the question

I currently have an XP 2100+ (0302) and a Vantec Aeroflow. I need to remove
the heatsink and re-seat it because I don't think I applied the AS correctly
on the initial install. Since I have to do this, I was thinking about
dropping in a 2500+ Barton.

1. Will the Barton run on the rev 1.04 A7N8X-D?

2. Would I need to do anything to access the necessary mults to bump it up
to the 2.2 GHZ - 2.4 GHZ range?

3. Will the Aeroflow work on the Barton (couldn't find anything via their
product lit) and provide enough cooling for the OC?

4. If the Aeroflow will not work, what HSF would you recommend? I read a
couple of other posts that suggested the Valman and a couple others might be
to heavy when installed via clips only.

5. I would guess that I would see a noticable performance increase with the
new CPU, am I correct in that assumption? Given that I can push the XP to
166*13 easily, perhaps I am not?

Thanks,

Dave

Keep the XP2100 and save your money. I have a different mobo, but with a
Vantec Aeroflow (with ASIII) and a XP2100. I'm currently running FSB175 x 12
with no effort. CPU temp gets up to 43C under stress with case temp 28C and
CPU socket 37C. No doubt could go higher, but system suits my needs as is.

Aeroflow will probably handle Barton at 2.2GHz, but at 2.4GHz you might have
to get something like a Cooler Master Aero 7+ . It's on my "wish list" ;-)

Yes, with the latest BIOS from Asus.

Shall do 2.2G, 11X 200FSB. My set-up here (A7N8X-D rev 1.04, Bart XP-2500)
is stable doing the above, but with 1.75Vcore. Idle 42C, Load 54C, Ambient
is 20C.
I would expect with a 'decent' water cooling solution, 2.4G would be
reachable.
Honestly, if you want faster than 200FSB, the revision 2 release of the
A7N8X is
it. Unless you can mod your voltage or get someone else to do it for you.

Any nice full copper heatsink, fitted with AS3 should be sufficent.
Try what you have first, with AS3 and see how it goes...

Well there is no doubt most XP-2500 CPU's can be pushed to 200*11 with ease.
If you have the spare $ go for it anything for faster SETI results!

Thanks,

Dave

Without mods, you're probably limited to a 12.5 mult., but that should be
more than enough. You can always raise fsb.

3. Will the Aeroflow work on the Barton (couldn't find anything via their

Of course.

The Aeroflow is more than good enough.

That depends on what you clock them at. If the 2100+ is a B core, there
will be very little difference in top end performance. If you are going to
run them at stock speeds, which doesn't appear to be the case, then the
2500+ will be about 10-15% faster obviously.

Yes, that is what I'm using now.

Other than setting the BIOS? Nope.

I expect so, if it works on other Athlons.
The Barton runs cooler than other similar-rating Athlons.

In SOME things, not in all things.

My 2500+ produced slightly better benchmark results in 3dmark2001/3 than my
new 1700+.

The 2500+ was clocked at 2305mhz and the 1700+ is clocked at 2477mhz.

The 1700+ feels quicker in windows though.
