usb wireless adapter and internal wireless adapter in one computer

Since the reception of the signal from my router is often weak in the
place where I would like to sit working, I frequently have problems
getting the internet there. Now I have a spare USB wireless adapter and
would like to try out whether it will receive the signal more clearly.

Hence my question: Is it a problem to work with a USB wireless adapter
on a computer which at the same time has an internal adapter or will
installing it interfere with the settings in such a way that it is
difficult to later reuse the internal wireless adapter (this is a
notebook which soon will be moved to a different home)? The operating
system of my computer is Vista Premium Home.

You should be able to add the USB adapter without any problem. If you look under network connectors you should see all the connections available; probably a wired connection and two wireless connections. You can configure each connection separately. Disable the connections you are not using.

You might want to try using 802.11b instead of 802.11g, and try a different channel to reduce interference.
