Default SBLive emulation is horrible and now suddenly drives broke: INI fileincomplete ?

Running my Pentium 166 and evaluating the value of SB Live.

So far I am not impressed, the emulation is horrible in dos, though I think something is wrong.

Pinball Dreams sounds horrible and Mortal Kombat has strange sound. Also PD sounds suddenly stopped working and such.

Anyway

I installed SBLive CD drivers in windows 98.

This creates DOSDRV folder as well.

Copied those files to c:\drivers\sndcard\sblive

and played with them.

First they were working.

Then I went to c:\porgram files and such ****ing hate that... and run sbeinit there and al

And I also did some kind of **** up I ran:

sbeset c

instead of sbeset -c

Somehow this broke the drivers and now SBEinit says sbliv driver not loading

and sbeset says:

"Error: Entry not found in INI file..."

So this is very strange... can't type properly fingures calles but above is correct error message.

If true than this is very annoying...

Apperently these sblive dos drivers are loading some ini file which is located somewhere...

could also be because sbeinit wasn't loaded.

I tried deleting all the INI files in the hopes of it auto creating a new one but no success.

There are many of these ini files located in creative

and sblive and such...

It's crazy how creative labs can't write a proper driver and somehow manages to **** up driver installation when speicifieigna strange parameter..

gjezus is it me or does this trust keyboard type horribly too..

I guess my fingers not used to typing so much crap in ms dos or they cold...

weird...

Anybody know a fix let me know ?

Gonna try and reinstall drives from cd to see if that fixes it..

SB emulation seems to require an additional IRQ

i tried i5 and i7 no success, sounds still horrible.

It's starting to seem SB Live Value! soundcard is crap for ms-dos gaming.

I am surprisd by this, this is not how I remember it.

So for now I am in disbelieve !

Hoping it some kind of config issue.

It should be...

Bye,
Skybuck.

Seriously **** you creative labs.

Create some AI which tests your drivers properly and does all kinds of stupid ****.

Cause even removing and re-installing did not fix the problem.

If you ****ers at creative labs can't even create a decent ****ing ms-dos driver than what the **** can you do ?!

Always keep ini and cfg files in same folder, now I have no idea what the **** is wrong or where the **** it's loading these files from.

This should not even be necessary to some degree but ok.

HOLY****ING ****.

I can't believe I just somehow broke your ****ing drivers ?!

YOU SUCK AT REINSTALLING DRIVERS MAN.

Bye,
Skybuck.

ALSO I CAN'T FIND ANY ****ING DOCUMENTATION FOR:

SET MIDI=SYNTH:1 MAP:E

Not that this is causing the driver fail... but still wanna know what the **** this is and how to configure it.

But since the drivers are no longer loading anymo

Config is incomplete ?!

HOLY**** ****.... DEALING WITH FILES IS SO SIMPLE

SAME

****ING

FOLDER

STUPID

****ING

CHINERSE

MOTHER****ERS.

You can't just load from random locations... now I have no idea where this ****ing file is if that is even the problem

We need some resource monitor for dos like in windows to see what kind of ****ing config or ini file these ****ty software are trying to LOAD.

HOLY****

How can SBESET C **** this up ?!

WTF ?!

Or was it cause I ran it from stupid bill gates program fikles ?!

WTF ?!

Bye,
**** **** ****.
Skybuck.

P.S: Same crap as with x-fil drivers, reinstalling doesn't clean ****.

Almost feels like some hardware setting inside soundblaster ****ed up, but I resetted system problem remains.

Ran following command:

dir /s /b inis.txt

This collects all inis on system.

Most suspect file is:

CTSYN.INI

In windows 98 installation folder.

Will have to compare this file with something else.

Maybe there is file system corruption cause of long files name not sure.

Bye,
Skybuck.

Another one is SBWIN.INI

It's completely empty.

Very strange.

Apperently these sblive value! ms-dos sb emulation drivers require a file called:

ctsyn.ini

This file is sloppyly installed in windows somewhere... and somehow it got corrupted... probably because of sbeset c which is wrong and needed to be -c

Anyway somebody on the internet posted the contents of this file and created it himself:

[ctsyn.drv]
OPLPort=388
MPUPort=330
SBPort=220
SBIRQ=7
SBDMALO=1
SBDMAHI=5
SBEnable=true
JOYEnable=true
Waveset=C:\OPERSYS\WINDOWS.98\SYSTEM\default.ecw
PCIPort=0
PCIIRQ=10
JOYPort=200

[SBEINIT]
CONFIG=SBESET.CFG

[SBESET.CFG]
SBPORT=220
MPUPORT=330
SBIRQ=7
SBDMALO=1
SBDMAHI=5
OPLPORT=388
SBENABLE=TRUE
JOYPORT=200
JOYENABLE=TRUE
WAVESET=C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\DEFAULT.ECW
PCIPORT=0
PCIIRQ=10

I modified it somewhat to resemble my settings.

Furthermore there needs to be a setting in the autoexec.bat that points to this file

Example/Something like:

SET BLASTER=A220 I5 D1 H5 P330
SET CTSYN=C:\WINDOWS
C:\DOSDRV\SBEINIT.COM

I will change this to

C:\DRIVERS\SNDCARD\SBLIVE

and store the CTSYN.INI as well in:

C:\DRIVERS\SNDCARD\SBLIVE

I will also make backup of it in case these ****ty tools **** it up again.

CTSYN.BAK

Bye for now,
Skybuck.

Some further notes:

SBESET.CFG does not exist, as indicated in ini file.

I do see CTPNP.CFG in windows.

Totally empty.

Might have to re-install entire operating system just to get this **** working if manually creating ini file fails.

Virtual environment might not work cause if driver cd does not detect soundblaster it might not install, not sure though.

Now going to try and fix this situation.

Windows.98\opersys

is actually folder i used for os..

windows.98\appls

or something would be where apps went..

kinda messy

but it also has windows.95 on it which is kinda funny =D

Tried it so far it's working except one thing seems wrong in ini and is easy to fix:

It showed error with loading this file:

WAVESET=C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\DEFAULT.ECW

It's located on my drive at:

C:\Windows.98\opersys\system

Apperently sbeinit needs this file for some reason.

Gonna fix it and then it should work

Unless it needs even more files =D

Bye,
Skybuck.

Ok there are two entries in the INI file.

Both must be set... to the same folder...

See ini file above.

Ok a restart was required, I tried it before restart and sbeinit kinda crashed, was funny page faults.

Now after restart it seems to be working again !

https://www.vogons.org/viewtopic.php?t=55047

I just apply my own custom fix with the CTSYN folder trick !

Skybuck.
