About ASPI
Does ASPI come as standard with XP or is it added with other burning
software. XP has IMAPI for burning ??????. I have an ASPI Layer on my
machine which seems to be 3 Files Adaptec 4.7 and 1 file 4.6. The
check up program says it is installed and working correctly. I also
seem to have Microstaff ASPI installed which came with FinePix Digital
Camera software. I have tried uninstall on these and system restores
to a time when I was able to alter my write speed but still no luck.
I burn Audio CD's and find anything faster than X4 can result in
errors so this is why I need to adjust the write speed

ASPI is not installed with XP; it uses a "native interface" instead. One
reason for that is the lack of control of the components of the ASPI
layer. You have evidence of that with two different versions installed;
fortunately, they appear not to conflict. Still, depending on your
mastering software, you may want to try using the miniport drivers. My
own experience is that they work well in both XP and 2K if there's no
ASPI component around.

Another problem

Whenever I try to produce a music Cd on the Iomega Drive Using
Hotburn Pro Software which came with it on the simulate section it
gets to the end and produces a Lead-in Size Error and ejects the disc
before it can burn.
Iomega support don't seem to know the answer to this one and emailed
me the support line number which in the USA. I am in the U.K. Some
use. I don't even know what EST means which is when I am supposed to
phone them

EST is Eastern Standard Time - and is probably not what they mean. My
guess is that they mean Eastern Time - Standard or Daylight (a.k.a.,
Summer) as appropriate and currently Daylight/Summer. If they sent you a
toll-free number, you probably cannot connect at all from outside the U.S.

The error is new to me, but I've never run Hotburn so that's hardly
surprising.

It is not clear why you need to reduce the speed on your drive; with
appropriate media, you should be able to run substantially faster than
4x. The reason that's important is not so much the minutes saved but the
quality of write. In general, modern media do not write well below 8x,
many want 12x or more. Any speed far from the optimum for your pair of
writer and medium is likely to generate a lot of errors.
