Default P4 2.80c And Direct 3D errors

I just installed a new Pentium4 2.80c.. I had a 2.80b
Now,for some reason I get erorrs in Direct X/ Direct 3D
tests.I also have errors in 3DMark 2001 and 03. I can no longer run anything
that uses Direct 3D..Other games that do not run in Direct 3D seem just
fine..
What is going on here?
I am using a ATI 9800 Pro
Asus P4C800 Deluxe
Muskin Pc3500 ram
WD 120Gig HDD

What's the real advantage in going from a 2.80b to a 2.80c ? Does the c
have hyper-threading ?

If you are running an operating system that supports dual processors, it is
recommended that you re-install Windows if you are upgrading from a
processor that does not have Hyper-Threading to a processor that does have
Hyper-Threading.

Where did you find that bit of info NightSky?
I have read quite a bit on these P4c's and have yet to run across that
advice..Could you give me a link please?

I seemed to have solved my problem without reinstalling my OS..I did however
reinstall my videocard drivers and now all is working fine..

I also now see two entry's in my Device Manager, under Processer, for my
Intel Pentium 4 CPU 2.80Ghz

There are two advantages 1 is hyper-threading, and the 2nd is FSB goes up to
800MHz from 533MHz.

I am running a P4 3GHz HT, with a 9800 Pro, and the system is so smooth.

Hard to say...I believe I may have read it in Maximum PC magazine and/or
have seen other users mention it as a solution to their similar problems.
I'm glad though that you were able to resolve the problem without taking the
drastic step of re-installing the OS.

Good to hear. I guess this adds to our collective "knowledge base". :-)
