Conclusion is in fact that the stock Intel cooler is not so bad

!
There is a lot of marketing and advertising about all kind of
esoteric
coolers, but best of them will not decrease the cpu temp by

more
than
3
to
5°C compared to the original boxed Intel. And it's always a

trade
off:
you
have to make a choice between noise or cooling (with all steps
between).

Bull****.

I have an Aero Iv and it knocked 9°C off.Its quiet too so stick

tht
in
ya
pipe

Thanks for the bull****.
But I tested different Aero models thouroughly in my system. I had

been
disappointed with the average performance of the Aero 4, so I
ordered
the
top model Aero 7 - 478 (not socket 478!). This is an Aero 7 with
heatpipes,
which was not available in Europe and had to come from Japan.

Tested
in
exactly the same circumstances as the stock Intel and measured

with
Asus
Probe, the results were as follows (for an ambient temp of 20°C):
Idle mode:
Intel: 29°C, Aero at 60%: 29°C, Aero at 100%: 28°C
Stressed:
Intel: 43°C, Aero at 60%: 42°C, Aero at 100%: 38°C
I've tested many coolers, and this last figure is the best I got
with
"off-the-shelf" coolers. However, at 100% rpm, the Aero is very
loud,
and
that's why I finally decided to switch to a home-made assembly
(ThermalRight
CU cooler with papst 120 cm fan). In stressed mode, I get only 2

°C
better
than the Aero at 100% rpm, but it's really quiet!

You dirty lying *******.

NO aero 7's fit on intel chips.

The numbering is simple : Aero 4 for P4's

Aero 7's For amd k7's, Ie athlon XP.

SO just to clarify you have never bought a turbo charged, super

Duper,
heat
pipe modified, go faster stripe painted Aero 7 for an Intel chip

have
you,
in future get you facts straight you half witted pillock.

Now if you stopped wasting your money on the "many off the shelf

coolers"
that you CLAIM to have bought, and padded your case with some decent
Baffle
material then sound wouldn.t be an issue would it.

You really are a complete fool; please don't waste my time again..

max

Hello Max,
Hope after reading the post (and link) of Michael Brown, you will

waste
one
more minute to apologize...

I followed the link u asshole, its in Russian; it says A7 for Socket A,
A4
for P4 Just as I said.

It is blatantly obvious that you are a simpleton.

Now shut up and dont bother again

max

You're really not very polite. This is supposed to be a user's group

where
people exchange their experiences and try to help each other.
But I do bother again. Just go to the following US Coolermaster site:
http://www.coolermasterusa.com/Product.aspx?ID=15
(it's not a Russian site!).
Here you will read about the Aero 7-478 (product name IHC-H71) that I
described: P4 cooler with Cu base and heatpipe. I agree, on the US site
it's
not called Aero 7-478, but all coolers there are called by their product
names. On the original Asian site (and some others) however, thes

cooler
gets the commercial "Aero 7-478" name.
But I think that's not the point. The point is that there is really a
Coolermaster for P4 with Cu base and heatpipes that gives excellent
results,
whatever the name.

You asshole

The product to which you refer is a 2 year old product; I know it well.
http://www.tech-pc.co.uk/ihcl71-1.php

It most certainly is not part of the Aero range. The aero range all have "
Innovative fan design to eliminate air flow dead spot. "; the fan is
perpenpicular to the base of the heatsink.

Sorry, in my hurry I referred to the old model. You're right when you say
the Aero range all have innovative design to eliminate the dead spot. Here
is another French link where the model Aero 478 (with the new fan) that I
purchased is fully tested and compared with a lot of competitors.
As you will see, it has the new fan, a Cu base, and is intended for P4.
http://www.hardware.fr/articles/479/page4.html
The benchmark results here are much better than those I measured in my
system, maybe due to a better case cooling: I used a Lian-Li, with dual
intake fans, but with a probably "warmer" vga card plus a Matrox video card
that could influence the results as the case temp was always about 35°C.
And thanks for your reference to the old model, where my temp measurements
are confirmed (except for the dead spot).

Arctic Silver 5 is grey but according to the Arctic Silver troops there is
some counterfeit AS being distributed. BTW is your Arctic Silver spelled
Artic? If so it's not legitimate.

A followup:

After installing a 120mm case fan in the front of the case and discovering
that it actually made my case and CPU temps go *up*, I decided to remove

and
reinstall the Zalman:

I undid the clip screws on the Zalman and carefully pulled straight up on
the heatsink. There was a little resistance before it came loose...and

when
I pulled it out and turned it over, the CPU was stuck to the bottom of the
heatsink. ****!

I carefully placed the Zalman upside down on the counter and proceeded to
(very carefully) wiggle the stuck CPU loose from the bottom of the

heatsink.
It finally came off - the Arctic Silver was a dull gray paste that was
spread somewhat unevenly over the top of the CPU. I suspected that I may
have used too much for the initial install...

I used rubbing alcohol and paper towels to scub the old Arctic Silver off
the CPU and the Zalman, reseated the CPU, and applied a very small glob of
Arctic Silver on the middle of the chip (BTW, the Arctic Silver 5 I've got
is dark gray - is this normal?). I then carefully lowered the Zalman
straight down on top of the CPU - but this time with the fan wires coming
out towards the front of the case, rather than the back as before. This
time, getting the screws to grab in the aluminum frames was a lot easier.

So I fired it back up and have had it on for about an hour. The results?
The CPU temperature is still at 48C at idle. Oddly enough, the mainboard
temperature, which had been sticking to around 28C, is now up to 29-30C.

*ponder*

I guess I'll wait another couple of days for the Arctic Silver to "cure"

and
see if it drops any, but so far this appears to have been an excercise in
futility...

Thanks for that most excellent post, probably the best explanation of heat
removal I've seen, appreciated.

And just to verfy what a lying ******* you are, you claimed that the

In future dont lie so much, and dont comment on stuff that you know
nothing about.

Hey Max, lighten up a bit will ya? You can make your point without
all the abuse *and* get taken a lot more seriously. It seems you
have some good info
to share, it'd be a shame to lose it in all the abuse.

Ok? :-)

point taken, but i lke being rude.

I like being naked too but there's a time and a place for everything. :-)

I nearly gave up on your posts a while back because of your tone. I'm glad I
didn't but seriously man, save the "being rude" for when you're at the pub
(bar).

So far I think you could be a valuable assett to this NG but you're just
gonna **** people off with the rude stuff and not get taken seriously. That
would be a shame. Not to mention the inevitable flamewars that will
seriously impinge on the signal to noise ratio. It'd be good to avoid that.
