compaq 1700
Recently purchased a Compaq 1700 Presario laptop used. When went to Compaq
site to look up information on unit since came without books etc. there are multiple models listed. Unit has a 900 MHz Pentium III processor and win 98se running with 256 of ram and a 6 gig hd cannot read model or sn on tag on bottom. does anyone have any suggestions thanks Eddie |

I see no models of any 1700 series that match those specs. Closest are some
of the lower number 17XL series. Try running Compaq Diags for Windows from Control Panel. You should see the serial number there. The S/N has a 4-letter config code in the middle. serial number as follows on system did make one mistake this is a 500 MHz

Looks like you have a 17XL260 that the original owner upgraded mrmory from
64 to 256MB. A Maintenance & Service Guide can be found he http://h18000.www1.hp.com/athome/sup...00XL/index.pdf You must have Adobe Acrobat reader installed to view it.
