Default HELP Armada m700 suddenly no boot

I have a compaq armada m700 with a p III 500 mhz processor

Something weird happened the other day--the machine shut down while it
was booting up and now it wont start at all.

Even though the battery has nearly a full charge, it wont turn on or
respond, no matter how many buttons I mash.

When I plug the unit in a socket with its ac adapter, a green and
amber light on the front panel just flash endlessly--I think one is
the main power light and the other is the battery charging light.

What does that mean? Is my laptop dead forever?
