Abit NF7-S (Not rev 2) + Athlon 3200 Xp boot problems
Hi
I have had this Abit NF7-S motherboard for a year and a half now which used to ru na Athlon 2700 XP 333 FSB with 1024 MB of Kingston 3200 DDR memory. But recently I bought an Athlon 3200+ XP processor and went to install it today. However upon going into the bio and into Softmenu 3 the processor reports as an Athlon 2500 XP. So when I select the 3200 XP option and the FSb is auto set to 400 MHz upon onrestarting the PC will now not boot into Windows XP. I know this processor works as my friend has the same processor and motherboard and it has worked perfectly. I have service pack 2 installed also. I have never updated the boards bios either. I was wandering if anyone might know what is wrong. I know the original version doesnt officially support 400 FSB but as my mate has had it working for over a year I cant see what problem there is. Does anyone have any help? Thankyou Paul Graham |

Others may add better advice, since I don't have this board...
A couple of things to note. It could be a wide variety of problems though. To see if it speed related, as a test reduce the FSB to 166 MHz (instead of 200 MHz) and see if things start working. Also, on some motherboards if the cpu "multiplier" is not set right, with a newer locked cpu, it won't boot.
