Default Can't listen to CDs on Winamp 2.81 anymore

Hi,
This one baffles me: I used to listen to CDs on Winamp and suddenly I can't
anymore. They'll play OK on Windows Media player, but I prefer good old
Winamp 2.81. If you can help me thanks!

Go into WinAmp's menu and make sure it's associated with "cda".

Options / Preferences / Setup / Filetypes

I can't help you - have the same problem. The problem occurred after
Nero was installed, and the computer restarted (in my case at least).

Seems that Winamp relies on being able to get the digital data from
the CD player before it will play music CDs - Windows media player
can/will play music CD's from the audio cable on the CD player.

Put an mp3 encoded disc in the player and Winamp works . . . but you
are correct it used to work with audio CD's prior to the installation
of Nero.

For those wanting more data: Nero 5.5x Windoze 98. Little message
popped up in Windows media player the first time the problem occurred
saying that the digital data wasn't available and that it would switch
to audio. Since then there's been no indication of it - but winamp
never plays CDA encoded discs.

It is low enough on my priority list that I haven't expended much
energy to fix it. I am curious to know what happened and how to fix
it.

Thanks for both answers. I uninstalled 2.81 and reinstalled it to no avail.
I have now settled for 2.91 and it works well (had to tweak Winamp
preferences and reinstall ASPI drivers too) but it is NOT 2.81! I think the
culprit was a DivX upgrade but I can't be sure.
