Default HDS TrueCopy

Hello all,

Anyone know how complex HDS Truecopy replication is we have all the the
nessassry components in place the only real issue is actually
identifying the SVOLS on the remote systems and turning on replication.
We have no real true HDS specialist on staff on dont want to pay for
consulting resources I've just been reading over the Truecopy manuals
and was just wondering if this is something one could do without proper
training ? Our team has lots of experience with storage in general and
for replication in the past we have only used Veritas volume
replicator. Any gotcha's to look out for thanks.

Ummm... sure you can try it without any HDS specialist consultancy as
long as you know the risks. Fundamentally it's similar to Veritas
Volume Replicator and once you have determined the correct P-VOLs and
S-VOLs you should be able to kick it off ok.

If it's important enough to replicate the data, is it something you
really want to be messing around with if you're not 100% sure of what
you're doing?

Where a consultant would come in handy is for scripting and procedures
for when things aren't working properly.

HVB.

Currently we are using VVR for the main production data and we are just
going to be evaluating the performance and flexibility of VVR vs
Truecopy, as of right now I will be testing with dummy data only and
probably not look to change the production system until me and my staff
are fully comfortable with Truecopy. One this i'm worried about is
muxing up the Producting HDS system hopefully it will be straight
forward enough to do without breaking anything. Yeah but I do see what
you mean. Do you know if HDS provide something like Blueprints like Sun
do ?

To get ShadownImage working the way we wanted required a month and a
half plus 3 days of HDS consultant scripting. If you want to do it
through the gui it's pretty simple, but a scripted scenario should
involve HDS or an HDS expert.

The command device alone was a pain in the arse to get functional, and
everything else relies on this...
