Quesiton about PCI EXPRESS??
What does it mean when motherboards say "1 PCI-Express X16 (2 X8 lanes)?
Now I thought PCI-Express graphics cards were X16. But these motherboards make it sound like they have 2 X8 slots. Can I use a single video card in these setups? Would a single video card have the full X16 bandwidth or only X8? |

The ironic thing is that if you have two video cards in there, in SLI or Crossfire configs, then you'll have only half the bandwidth going to each video card (X8 per card). They get away with that because even an X8 PCIe is more bandwidth than most video cards need. However, some proper gaming motherboards are available with dual X16 connections. Needless to say, they are much more expensive. Yousuf Khan |
