Default Delayed Write Failure on D:\$MFT

I have been getting a Delayed Write Error on file D:\$MFT in my D drive. I
googled all the solutions on this one and found that maybe having the cache
enabled might be the problem. The D drive in on a Promise Ultra TX2 133
controller. I am using Windows XP with the latest driver and XP in on
another drive. I am hoping its just the caching problem and will go away.

Any thoughts?

Which cache are you talking about? Incidentially I think you mean
"buffer" and not "cache". Caches are not involved in writing, but
in reading.

As to the delayed failure, something must have caused it. Typically
the reral reason will be a disk error, and you should not wait
till it gets worse before finding out what the real problem is.

I would advise you to get a full SMART statuf from the disk (works
on the Promise in the standard way) and run a long SDMART selftest.
Also make sure your backups are current.

Is the drive a removable drive? This is a common problem when a USB
(or similar) drive is unplugged before the cacahe has been written.
