XP Upgrade
Hello,
I want to upgrade from Me to XP, with a clean install. Dell didn't ship a legitimate copy of windows Me, they only provided a reinstall CD. Can anybody tell me if it is possible to use this CD as proof of qualifying media during the install? I got the upgrade to the home edition from Dell over a year ago, but never installed it. Can this be installed clean or used only for an upgrade? I would like to purchase XP professional, for various reasons, but am concerned that I do not have the right CD to prove I am qualified for the upgrade. Any help or comments are appreciated. Thanks in advance. Bejay |

Your Dell ME reinstall CD is a full version of ME and works for the upgrade.
You do not need to have ME installed to qualify for the upgrade. Follow the clean install instructions here including deleting the existing partition: http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/cleanxpinstall.html "BeJay" wrote in message ... That worked fine for me with an Inspiron 8000. When XP asked to see the
original OS disk, ME, XP Home upgrade was perfectly happy with the Dell disk. Apparently some other companies provide restoration disks that won't do it, but my experience with Dell was just fine. -- Thomas M. Goethe "BeJay" wrote in message ...
