Default MP3 burning.... Advise appreciated.

How do you set the order of songs to be played
back when burning MP3s to CDs or DVDs using the
Nero MP3 burning module? Nero seems to keep auto
arranging and burning them in alphabetical order.
What role does the M3U playlist perform in the
process?

Will files recorded with mixed bit rates playback
ok in the common houshold MP3 players or must they
be burned @ a standardized bitrate ( eg- 44.1 HZ 16
bit Stereo)
Thank you for any pointers and guidance.

Right. Therefore, preface the file names with sequential numbers in the
order you wish. Note that each number must have as many places as there
are files.

Those specs have nothing to do with MP3 bit rates, they are specs for
the ripped waves from which the MP3s were made. Those specs are
necessary to make audio CDs from MP3s but not data (MP3) CDs. Whether
or not a particular MP3 encoding bit rate will be handled correctly is a
function solely of the player so check its manual.

The order Nero burns them in is irrelevant, as the player will sort
the files using their its own sort system. Default is usually
ascending alpha numeric order, but some allow you to change the sort
method in a setup of some kind.

Typically, the M3U playlists don't mean anything, and are ignored. On
those players that support the feature (assuming you've got it
enabled), the M3U playlist ordering takes precedence over the player's
internal sort. That is, assuming you don't enable some sort of
"shuffle" feature.

To force the play order, you can use the alphanumeric sort to your
advantage by prefixing your file names with a number:

eg. 001-Oh_Canada.mp3
002-GodSaveThe_King/Queen.mp3
003-StarSpangledBanner.mp3
004-Hymn_of_Soviet_Union.mp3
005-March_of_the_volunteers.mp3

It's 44.1KHz, by the way. I've yet to see any encoders that let you
go outside the typical sample rates of 44.1KHz, 32KHz, 22KHz, 11KHz.
You don't have to have every file in the archive encoded the same, you
can mix and match them, provided they're mp3 compliant.

The only times I've ever seen a compliant MP3 file trip up an MP3
player was a file that was encoded with a variable bit rate (VBR)
setting, but it was a pretty crappy CD-MP3 player. Most newer ones
handle it without problem. I wouldn't really worry too much about it.
The common error handling with files the player can't figure out seems
to be to just ignore the offending file and skip to the next one.
Admittedly, I've only had personal experience with 8 or 9 different
models, so I can't say for sure if this is the behaviour of all
players, but it seems to be a pretty idiot proof way of dealing with
incompatible files.

Thanks.
