Default "Brasil.pif" Error Message Appearing On Start-Up

Hi all. I have a problem when my PC, that is running Windows 98,
starts up. I recently obtained a new antivirus (AVG). On running it a
virus was identified in a file call "Brasil.pif". It cleaned the virus
and all seemed OK. However, each time Windows starts (or restarts) the
following messages appear as the desktop is laid out on the screen:

"Cannot find the file 'Brasil.pif' (or one of it's components). Make
sure the path and file name are correct and that all required
libraries are available".

Once you click OK on the message a second message comes up stating:

"Could not load or run 'Brasil.pif' specified in the WIN.INI file.
Make sure the file exists on your computer or remove the preferecne to
it in the WIN.INI file".

Once you click OK on this second message the desktop then loads up and
the
computer seems to behave normally. These two messages appear each time
the PC is restarted. What can I do to get rid of this problem and what
is causing it? Thanks!!

You will need to edit the 'win.ini' file to either remove or disable the
entry referencing the '.pif' file.

The following is from memory as I don't have a Win98 machine running at
present:

Close all open applications.

Click on the 'Start' button.

Click on the 'Run' menu item.

In the entry field type 'sysedit' (no quotes) and click the OK button.

You'll see several windows open with each displaying a differet text file.

Click on the title bar that displays 'win.ini'.

If the file is small you can scroll through it to locate the 'Brasil.pif'
item.
Also, you can (as I recall) press CTRL-F (Control key and the 'F' key) to
open a 'Find' dialogue. Type 'Brasil.pif' (again, no quotes) into the entry
field and click the appropriate button.

When you locate the entry it will probably be prefixed with something like
'Run=' or 'Load='.

Check the entire file as the entry might be in several locations.

To disable the item place a semi-colon ( as the very first character of
the line.

Save the file and close the windows.

Reboot the machine as you normally would.

The messages should no longer appear.

If they do re-appear then you may have an entry in the Windows Registry.

Repeat the 'Start | Run' and type 'regedit' into the field.

Press CTRL-F and type 'Brasil.pif' into the field.

If the entry is located you should be able to click once on it and press the
Delete key.

You'll be prompted to confirm the deletion.

Close the registry editor and reboot the machine.
