Default slimline cdrom as slave

It is my understanding that slimline IDE cdrom and dvd drives tend to
be "hard-wired" to be master on their IDE channel. I have need for a
slimline drive that can be the slave. Can anyone suggest a
manufacturer and model of a drive that master/slave switchable; or
even just configured to be the slave?

Thanks,

Tony Stein
