Default "Non-Warranted" Drive

Replacing a defunct drive in a Netfinity 5000 on an IBM 4M controller.
Replacement drive is exactly the same model, although not rebranded by
IBM (from Seagate OEM). After ServerRAID Manager rebuilt the drive, it
said the drive was a "non-warranted physical drive" and refused to
recognize it. Any ideas as to why this might be happening and what can
be done about it?

The seagete drives are not installed with IBM´s firmware, but "non-warranted
physical drive" does not allways mean it doesn´t work, but it is not
supported (or warrented) by IBM.

I have had several server running with these "non-warranted" disks without
problems, but I have also had som problem with arrays unable to rebuild
failed drives, or gennerating SCSI time outs.

Best regards

Johnny

Aha. That would be a good reason to switch to a storage solution that
will let you use generic drives and "warrant" them. After all what do
you do if you need a replacement and IBM does not provide the disks
anymore or only at a ridiculous price?

Typical lock-in-hardware. Very bad from a technical point of view.
