Can I setup my two 500gb HDs to become one 1000gb?
Hi
I am running Windows 7 RC. I have a server which has a 70gb HD for the OS, and two 500gb disks for the server. Is it possible to configure the disks like in RAID, to work as one single 1,000gb? Thank you. Demon |

I think most RAID controllers have a "jbod" mode for that. It means
"just a bunch of disks," I think. -- Ed Light Better World News TV Channel: http://realnews.com Bring the Troops Home: http://bringthemhomenow.org http://antiwar.com Iraq Veterans Against the War: http://ivaw.org http://couragetoresist.org Send spam to the FTC at Thanks, robots. |

Cool, ok thanks... will look into this... thank you Uh, JBOD will not make multiple HDs appear as one HD. RAID-0 can be used to make a pair of 500GB HDs appear to be a single 1TB HD. RAID-0 (a/k/a striping) will also deliver higher performance, but with lower reliability. I think every RAID controller supports RAID-0. And, many OSs (even some from M$) support software RAID-0, and at a pretty small performance cost. -- Cheers, Bob |

Some vendors mean APPEND-mode by it. Others mean disk pass-through. Even other variants may exist. I think every RAID controller supports RAID-0. And, many OSs (even some from M$) support software RAID-0, and at a pretty small performance cost. Given that most cheaper RAID controllers are software RAID anyways. Arno |
