Default How stable is 175.19?

On this Quad Core Q9450 2.66 GHz, 4 GB DDR2 667 MHz, 512 MB nVIDIA
GeoForce 8800GT, I upgraded from driver 169.21 to 175.19 a few weeks
ago.

All has seemed OK, apart from a few quirks which I can't be sure are
nVIDIA related. But this morning I had a spectacular crash while
attempting to play a large AVI video clip. Extensive graphics
corruption and total freeze, so had to reset PC.

Is the consensus amongst others with more experience of this driver
that it is reliable and generally OK please?

Hello
I installed them as soon as they came out and I had no problems so far.
But my configuration is very different (Gigabyte M55S-S3 v2, Athlon x2
4800 and Twintech Geforce 9600GT with Vista Home 32).
I've played lot of different games and applications without any problem.
So I can consider these drivers as very reliable.

Ash.

A Google search of this group would have revealed that Nvidia pulled 175.19
for XP.

Actually, I think they put them back a while ago, with a new date slapped
on (and perhaps with new/fixed content too ?

*checking*

Yup, GeForce/8 series/8800GTX/WinXP: 175.19, dated 9-July-2008.

The funny part is, if you search via the 'Beta drivers' link, you find a
set of 175.19 dated on 23-June-2008. I can't currently check if these
differ from the July 9th set though, but I am curious...

Regards,

Patrick.

and if you play Age of Conan, you'll find that 175.19 is pants for
frames-per-sec; and a lot of players reverted to WHQL 175.16.

If I already had the answers, I wouldn't be asking here.

At the main page
http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_175.51.html
I see that the latest version is 'Quadro 175 WHQL', Version 175.51,
released April 30, 2008. None of the replies mentioned that one?

And at the 'Archive' page
http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp-2k_archive.html
I see a list of previous versions, all purporting to be for XP. I have
no idea which of these is recommended. (And why doesn't this include
the version 175.16 suggested by Mike Dodd?)

Version: 176.04 Release date: July 11, 2008
Version: 169.55 Release date: June 23, 2008
Version: 169.96 Release date: June 6, 2008
Version: 162.69 Release date: April 28, 2008
Version: 175.51 Release date: April 30, 2008
Version: 162.73 Release date: April 14, 2008
etc

I'm not a graphics expert, so would much appreciate some plain advice
from those who are please.

Your results with driver suites will vary based on your specific
configuration of hardware and software and usage patterns.

Without knowing your specific configuration, nor your preferred
applications, nor your desired results, all that can be offered is this
advise:

Pick the current WHQL version of forceware, note well which applications
have issues and either revert to an older version if the application is
mature and the older version does not have such issues or wait a day and
try a new cooked version in hopes of that version fixing the problem.

Ignore all else.
