XPS R400 and 4100 motherboard...possible?
agreed. despite the different front bezel on the dxxx, the dimension dxxx,
rxxx, txxx, and 4100 have identical power supply connectors and front panel connectors (power/reset switches). the only difficultly i can report is that of installing in a dxxx... since the 4100 motherboard is significantly smaller front to back (not across the rear edge where the connectors and expansion slots are) the front panel connector was just barely long enough to connect to the motherboard. you will not have this problem with a rxxx or txxx. "S.Lewis" wrote in message ... Absolutely possible. I have both machines. Stew "sg4me" wrote in message ... Bruce, The Motherboard from the 4100 (OEM version of the Intel D815EA) physically will fit in the case. However the power supply that is in your XPS-R400 has non-standard wiring to the motherboard. It has been a few years since I had my R350, but as I remember it has extra 5V lines going in compared to the standard ATX spec. (I remember that a lot of people complained to Dell about the non-standard power supplies) Not knowing if Dell changed the power on the 4100 to an ATX Standard unit (I know the XPS T and B series are also non-ATX standard) my only guess is that you would have to change the power supply to one that is known to work with a 4100. A good one is the PC Power and Cooling 300 Dell (Here are the specs on it http://www.pcpowerandcooling.com/pro...erformance/tur bocools/index_hp_atx.htm). Hope I helped, Ben "Bruce" wrote in message om... Hello, I am wondering if I can swap the motherboard in my XPS-R400D with a Dell 4100 motherboard. I've seen some posts that say 'probably', but I have not seen posts from anyone who's actually done it or who can say for sure that it can be done. I'd like to know if the 4100 is a direct replacement, i.e., would I have to swap anything else out (besides the cpu of course) or modify the case in any way. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
