restoring foreign DAT-Media - help!
Hello!
I'm searching for a program(or a simple way), which can read and restore Data from a DAT - Media (4mm DDS3), but I dont know how the Data has been stored on the Media (which program,...). I found DATMAN - but it only works with W9x and WinME (I use W2k-Server). Besides, it costs quite alot, and i plan to use it only once - so perhaps you know some programm, which fits my needs. regards, Mathias |

I'd go for Linux first. Use the dd command to copy the tape to a file, and then use the strings command on that file to find out if the data is plaintext or compressed. Thomas |

the problem is, that our server is running on W2k-Server. And I dont have
another machine, that has a DAT-Drive. Perhaps I can use a Linux-StartCD (Knopix) in order to read the tape. But I can just do this, when nobodys working in my company (weekend)... sb got another, a little bit simpler solution? "Zak" schrieb im Newsbeitrag news:W5Zgb.9896$P51.17533@amstwist00...
