Netbackup and synthetic fulls
The description of this feature says "Synthetic backups are automatically
created from a traditional (non-synthesized) full backup and any number of incrementals.." If a synthetic full requires a "traditional" full as a starting point, then you can never acheive the goal of avoiding multiple backups of non- changing data. The only way to do that is to allow a synthetic full to be based off of another synthetic full. Is this possible? |

Yes.. Once you have created a synthetic full, that full backup is a
complete full backup and can be used for to create additional synthetic fulls. The Synthetic full backup is a complete full backup and is equivalent to do doing a full backup.
