Default Inno3D nVidia GeForce FX 5200 (64MB, 128bit, passive cooling)

I've flashed new AMI BIOS 030811 from the site of the manufacturer of
my ECS K7S5A v3.1 motherboard (www.ecs.com.tw), installed Windows XP
Professional, installed AGP VxD Driver 1.17 and installed MS DirectX
9.0b, installed nVIDIA drivers ver53.03 and the graphics card seemed
to work properly. I checked its settings and noticed that only AGP2x
had been set, although AGP4x should be supported by my motherboard
(I've enabled the AGP4x support in BIOS). I run the SiS AGP Utility
v1.1 which gives me following:
AGP Bus Capability: Major/Minor vesion 2.00, FastWrite Supported NO,
SBA Supported YES, Supported Rate 1x, 2x, 4x.
Video Card Capability: Major/Minor version 3.00, FastWrite Supported
YES, SBA Supported YES, Supported Rate 1x, 2x.

In the 'Transfer Rate Select' there were four radio buttons marked 1x,
2x, 4x and 8x (the last one was disabled). I've selected the 4x.
No change.

I tried the RivaTuner utility which provided following information:

I had the possibility to test this card with another ECS K7S5A Pro
(nVidia driver ver53.03) with the same result. The last motherboard
I've tested was an ASUS with nVIDIA chipset and AGP8x capable. This
time the graphics card run only AGP4x (new AGP drivers for the
motherboard were installed).

The GeForce MX440 (manufacturer unknown) was working AGP4x with both
ECS motherboards and AGP8x with the ASUS mentioned above.

Another problem I have been experiencing is, that the screen "freezes"
for several seconds sometimes; this happens randomly and usualy while
playing games, but also while browsing.

What am I missing -- why doesn't the card work properly?
