Hiya,

Working on a windows 98 PC. after performing a scan disk the system wouldnt
start up. Managed to boot into DOS and perform scan disk there were it fixed
the file allocation tables. Now the PC is booting fine but it wont read from
drive A or D (cd rom) says the device is inaccessible (or whatever).
The
floppy works on boot up from a boot up floppy disk though...

Just wondering whats wrong - the bios recognises both drives, both drives
are enabled and say they are working correctly in device manager (grrrr!)
I've tried swapping out the ribbon cables etc...

thanks in advance...

This is consistent? Allowing scandisk to "fix" things can result in as
much trouble or more than doing nothing at all. Sounds like the
scandisk didn't do the job quite right. Though the BIOS recognizes
the devices and all the Windows drivers for them could be corrupt.
Also could be there's trouble with the drive too since a scndisk was
needed. Doing a full format should mark the troube spots and give you
a good clean start.
