Computer keeps hanging.
Hi,
I got this problem with my computer I recently built that I'm not sure about its cause, but was hoping that maybe someone here could help me with. The computer keeps hanging at random occations, so it's very difficult to pin-point the excact circumstances and thus the reason for why it hangs. It doesn't seem as it's related to any particular operations nor for how long I've been using the computer. One time it hanged right with the logon screen in Windows XP, another time when I had been running BurnInTest for a while and a last time when I was just surfing web pages. My computer consists of the following: Mobo: Abit KD7, VIAKT400, ATA/133 PSU: Enermax ATX 431W CPU: AMD Athlon XP2400+ 2.0 GHz 266 MHz bus RAM: 512MB DDR PC3200 GFX: Creative Geforce 4 Ti4400 Harddrives: 2 CD-ROMs: 2 I have no idea why this problem occur. I've also reinstalled Windows XP after installing this new hardware, but the problem still remained. So is there anything I can check or do to maybe overcome this issue. Any ideas and I'll be more than greatful! Many thanks in advance! Kind regards, - Roy |

Kind regards, - Roy A very likely cause could be bad RAM or a possible hardware conflict with any other cards if any that you did not list. Try isolating the problem. If you have two RAM sticks try one then the other. Budget brand RAMs can be troublesome. Bring the system down to bare minimum(single drive, vid, keyboard). Also use the BIOS temp monitor to check idle CPU temp if you haven't already. |

Well, there is an Audigy2 and a 3Com ethernet card in there as well. But
when checking through the interrupts in Windows it didn't report any conflicts on any of the hardware. But I will strip my computer to its minimum and see how things are then. Thanks again!
