Default HP Storageworks SAN Switch

Hello,

If I've posted in the wrong place can someone please point me in the
right direction?

I've got a console connection to a HP Storageworks SAN Switch that
I've pulled out of my store to do some testing. I've managed to
connect to the switch via the console using both Putty and
HyperTerminal. After I power on the switch I can see text scrolling
down the screen. However the console doesn't seem to be responding to
any key-strokes so I can't login.

I know the switch is still responding because it spews out more text
to the console if I switch off one of the redundant power supplies.

Can anyone help please?

Thanks

Give us a model of that switch.

Meaningful text or garbage?

If you have a correct serial connection, and telnet is activated, you
should receive (after a minute or two) login screen.

If this is a brand new (Brocade) switch, try to get web connection
through web browser with IP 10.77.77.77/24.

Best regards,

Iggy

Hi Iggy,

Thanks for your reply

Give us a model of that switch.

This is the model:

Meaningful text or garbage?

Yes, this is meaningful text as the switch boots. In addition with my
power supply test, the status os the switch is displayed.

Agreed, but this doesn't seem to be the case

This isn't a new switch, it's been decomissioned and put on a shelf,
so I've no idea of the IP config

Sorry the info is a bit limited, but do I have any options?

Thanks

That is Brocade 4100 switch. Makes things a little bit easier. There are
some procedures you may try to apply, like Brocade Fabric OS password
recovery notes. Find it with Google, I don't know whether you have
Brocade / IBM / HP access.

OK. Serial setup seems to be OK, but it is pretty strange that somebody
disabled serial connection (if you have the proper serial cable).

should receive (after a minute or two) login screen.

Try to follow instructions in document mentioned before, and also try
Brocade and HP support forums. Actually I don't have some time right now
to create the same scenario here, but if you don't manage to get through
I can ask Brocade support.

Best regards,

Iggy

I found the doc......

I'll give it a try though it looks like I'll have to log in, which I
can't do!

I'm going to try different cables.

I'll try to recreate the case, I suppose I have somewhere 4100 to play with.

Maybe. But, anyway, if you have a readable screen, and still no login,
looks like serial connection is unavailable.

If you run out of ideas, send me an e-mail within a few days, I need
some time to try this. Anyway, try to ask this question on Brocade forum.

Best regards,

Iggy

Hi Iggy,

I've isolated the problem to the COM port on the server. I tried to
connect via another machine and it worked.

Thanks very much for your input, much appreciated.

Best regards

You're welcome, I'm glad you managed to solve that problem, you really
had a bad luck. )

Now I need to move this switch back on stock. )

Best regards,

Iggy
