Default DLT / LTO autoloader and shell scripts

Hi,
I didn't get any answer form my previous question so I probably asked the
wrong question :-( Anyway I need advise on using a tape autoloader with
tar / cpio. How do I backup to an autoloader using standard gnu utils?

If you really want to use your own scripts I believe you'd need to use
low level scsi commands to control the robot and drives. These will
be vendor specific by autoloader and drives.

I believe there are some free backup software apps that will do this
and even use tar format to tape. No reason to use homegrown too much
anymore.
