Default HP Laserjet 5000 jamming

I have a HP Laserjet 5000 that jams when it trys to take paper from the
lower tray and it takes multiple pages through the manual feed.

Does anyone know what might be wrong. I'm not sure if its worth fixing
since for about $200 I can get another laser that would work for me.
If it can be fixed for $200 then I might get it fixed.

Its resolution is great so I'm hessitant to get rid of it.

Thanks,
Chris

Hi Chris
The symptoms you describe are almost certainly the result of worn pick up
rollers and separation pads in both trays. They often fail at the same time,
aging of the roller material is a factor as much as usage. I assume you have
one 250 sheet tray and you do not have an optional tray 3.

Go to http://www.printertechs.com/tech/mki...00-4mptray.php to see the
instructions for the Multipurpose (tray 1) roller replacement instructions
and
http://www.printertechs.com/tech/mki...5000-250sh.php for tray 2 (250
sheet) roller replacement instructions

Ignore references to Transfer roller replacement if your print quality is OK.
(so don't buy a transfer roller in that case).

Then Google "laserjet 5000 parts" to find the parts (you will need one roller
and separation pad for each tray, if you have a 500 sheet optional tray this
uses different parts to the standard 250 sheet tray) I suggest that you buy
genuine HP parts since some aftermarket rollers do not last as long.

I strongly suggest you replace the rollers and the separation pads in each
tray; roller wear causes misfeeding (input jams) and separation pad wear causes
multifeeding, your message indicates you are getting both of these from one
tray or the other.

Well worth fixing this printer, you won't get anything like as good for $200 I
don't think.
Good luck
Tony
