500Gig and usb enclosure prob
I have a 500Gig WD h/d and a NextStar 3 usb enclosure and a problem
*I can only format when the drive is attached as an IDE device. I then attach it to the usb and and works great...I copy files into it then after I turn the computer off and hte usb drive off *I then turn the computer aon and the usb HD on and it won't read my drive anymore. It gives me an I/O error when I try to access it and I can't format it as an USB drive. jumper is set to master as what it should be. DISK MANAGEMENT says its status is healthy and partition is basic but shows nothing as FILE SYSTEM. If I do this procedure again it will work then samething will happen again. I tried fron and back usb connectors. Should I try an external powered usb hub or try changing from usb 2.0 to usb 1.1 in the bios? |

Setting the jumper to master is only used on a WD HD when there's a slave drive attached. If it's the only drive the jumper must be removed. That's the single drive master setting. |

500Gig and usb enclosure prob
I set my usb device in the bios to 1.1 and now it works. I can format it
and unplug ang plug the usb cable back in and restart my computer and it works. I then reset my bios usb device to 1.1+2.0 setting and rebooted then device came back up and worked. I then unmounted and tried to remount the drive under the 2.0 setting and it wouldn't work again. This time I went back to 1.1 in the bios and rebooted and it came back up and worked. I want this deive to work permanently in 2.0. The question is, is it getting different power requirements under 1.1 then 2.0? Would a powered usb hub work better if it was plugged into a usb @ 2.0 setting in the bios? "Hugh Sutherland" wrote in message ... My 1st guess would be that the motherboard and external enclosure's
chips are incompatible. I've sent more that one enclosure back before I found one that worked ok. -- Ed Light Better World News TV Channel: http://realnews.com Bring the Troops Home: http://bringthemhomenow.org http://antiwar.com Iraq Veterans Against the War: http://ivaw.org http://couragetoresist.org Send spam to the FTC at Thanks, robots. |

well its deffinently a M/B problem. Even my flash drive wldn't wrk under
USB 2.0 and the powered hub didn't make a difference. My printer and logitech cam are not affected by it. I think I will have to get a PCI USB 2.0 card. "Hugh Sutherland" wrote in message ... Just a reminder to get the latest motherboard drivers, in case that hasn't been mentioned. -- Ed Light Better World News TV Channel: http://realnews.com Bring the Troops Home: http://bringthemhomenow.org http://antiwar.com Iraq Veterans Against the War: http://ivaw.org http://couragetoresist.org Send spam to the FTC at Thanks, robots. |
