Default Need mobile web cam solution

Within the next few weeks, I need to come up with a mobile web cam
setup for use in a vehicle, and I'm looking for camera and software
recommendations.

This would be a lot like a police car setup. I'm probably going to
buy a laptop running either XP Home or Vista, and need at least one
camera, although two would be ideal, with one facing forward and the
other facing to the rear. It needs to record for the entire time I'm
operating the vehicle (software start with OS boot), and I would like
to use software that could automatically split the files up based on
time (like 1 hour or less per video). I'll bring the laptop in each
evening, where I can transfer the files over to one of my desktops for
review and/or burning to DVD if necessary.

I have previously used a standard VCR setup with an infrared camera
from Costco, and it worked fine for its purpose, but I really don't
want to fool with swapping tapes while driving anymore. Plus I'd like
to semi-permanently mount the camera(s) in the vehicle. My old setup
took up the entire front passenger bucket seat, and I'd like something
that leaves that seat free. I can set up a mount so that the laptop
sits on the transmission hump between the seats.

I know there can be issues with running two cameras on the same
computer, so I thought I'd check here to see if anyone has set up
something like this before.

TIA!
