Update on Deal or No Deal
I recently posted the information below.
I spoke with the IT Department and found the following information: Almost all are XP machines with 256 or 512 (more likely) memory. The models are lattitudes D800 or similar. Folks, I've been very pleased with my Dells (I have a Desktop 2400 and an Inspiron 2200 and they have worked flawlessly). My uses would be minimal -- spreadsheet, word processing, internet surfing, playing poker online, etc. In most cases, the batteries are at their half-way mark, holding a charge for maybe 90 minutes. So, given this new information, Deal or No Deal (I might be able to inspect the laptops before putting my name in so I might have even more information at that time). Mel The Campus is having a Laptop Lottery to sell decommissioned Laptops. The cost is $75.00 in cash or check Special Note: Laptops are sold as is. No support will be given from Information Technology. There is no Dell warranty with them, they are approximately 4 years old. Laptop Specs Each Dell Latitude Laptop package will at least include the following: a.. Windows 2000 or XP (Operating System) b.. Windows 2000 or XP Drivers for Devices Installed c.. At least 64 MB RAM d.. At least 10 Gigabyte Hard Drive e.. Laptop batteries may or may not hold charge *Note: Laptops include case and power cord. |

Mel Based on the old info., for me -- no way. Based on this new info, he** yes. The D800 is a great laptop with a modular bay. If the primary battery is at the halfway point you could buy a modular bay battery. Some Latitudes have had heating problem. Also, check the cases for cracks. |

Update on Deal or No Deal
Deal. A P4 Latitude D800-series is far better made than your Inspiron 2200. If
you can get one in good shape, consider keeping it and selling the 2200. .... Ben Myers On Sat, 12 May 2007 13:07:35 -0400, "MZB" wrote: I recently posted the information below. Update on Deal or No Deal
Frankly, I thought it was a deal before.
Deal, definitely. [Note: In a sense, what you plan to use it for doesn't matter. Laptops have a certain value. Today, on E-Bay, a Toshiba 2805-S201 went for $142. That is a CELERON 650MHz with a SIX gig hard drive and 64MB of memory. A very good computer, and I think that $142 was high, but that's what it went for.] MZB wrote: I recently posted the information below. wrote: Journey: Excuse my ignorance, but was is a modular bay? Mel A modular bay for that model is on the side of the computer where you put your optical drive or other modules. A modular battery can be put there, hot-swapped, which give you more battery life. For past computers of this type the computer took the charge first from the modular battery and then the primary. Be sure, if this is important, to verify all of these facts. I have never owned a D800, but I have had a D505 an Inspiron 8600, and an Inspiron 600m, all of which had modular drives. |

Oh, so you can use, basically, 2 batteries (when first runs out switch to
the second)? I didn't know about that. Mel "Journey" wrote in message ... On Sat, 12 May 2007 17:13:31 -0400, "MZB" wrote: Journey: Excuse my ignorance, but was is a modular bay? Yes -- the primary battery stays in. The secondary modular battery
can be exchanged for the optical drive. When the secondary modular battery runs down you can hot exchange it for another one. When I was a web-developer student and needed my laptop all day, I had a Latitude with several modular batteries. While most students had to search for outlets and competed with spaces next to outlets, I was free to be wherever and however long I wanted to be.
