Yesterday a friend bought a Compaq C771US from Staples, and while
I'm far from an HP/Compaq fan I have to admit being very impressed
with it so far. It was $480 less $30 mail-in rebate:

1.86GHz Core 2 Duo/2GB ram/160GB HD/Lightscribe dual-layer
DVD/WiFi etc. The build quality seems amazing too.

Vista boots on this laptop in 15 seconds. The 2GB memory helps.

I'm not saying it's super fast, just a lot of laptop for $450.

Actually quite reasonable for a C2D... How many dual-core or dual-CPU
laptops were there in 2002? What CPU technology was available at 1.86 GHz?
