ALPS md-5000 Anti-curl Motor Error

I have an ALPS MD-5000 and i am constantly getting an anti curl motor
error. Alps tech support said it is not "field repairable" and the
only option is to have it repair exchanged for $350.00. anyone know of
any other solutions?
