Default COMPAQ carton mislabled - PC inside not what described outside

I purchased a sealed carton fron a national chain store.

Two labels on outside (about 4x6 inches) describe contents as S4100NX
while contents actually were S4000NX with half the RAN and HAlf the size HD.

I also noticed a small (about 3x3 inch lable on top of same box) with CPQ
S4000NX
(among other info) on it.

Anyone else have a similar experience?

Reason for asking:

It gets worse, the PC was not immediately set up.

The box was in storage for months because of moving from one house to
another. When setting the thing up yesterday, it refused to boot or
restore.

I may be stuck with a dead PC and out a few hundred $$$$$$.

Nothing yet, I just e-mailed them shortly after posting this.

I also contacted HP/COMPAQ.

It's VERRRRRY important to check the box contents and EVERY possible
function of a laptop IMMEDIATELY, like the same day you buy it.
Otherwise, you get into the situation you have. You're hozed unless you
can find a friendly rep who will bend the rules for you.
I'm guessing you won't find a sympathetic rep. Realize that they
probably handle several calls a day from people trying to scam them.

But if you bitch enough,
you may get them to do something just to shut you up. Rarely hurts to
be a squeaky wheel.
