thin client question
A friend of mine is putting in server in the office and connecting 12-15
pc's to it. We are buying the server new , p4 2.4, 2gig ram and have a company to setup the network and install the software. They are trying to sell us the thin client workstations, used p-166's with 8 meg video and a nic card without cd, hard drive or monitor for $140 each. I told them I could get them cheaper and then they said they would gives 300's instead of 166's. I can find thin client pcs way cheaper than $140 each but most only have 2 - 4 meg video. The guy trying to sell us the workstations is saying that each workstation has to have an 8 meg video card we are only going to be view text applications so I wouldn't think we would need 8 meg cards. Maybe there are other variables to be considered but these guys have been trying to sell us a lot of overpriced components so I figured they were lying about the video requirements. Also maybe someone can refer me to a place online where I could order used workstations. Also need a rack - mount server at least p 1.8, 2 gig ram, 40-80 hd, where is a good place to buy this also? Thanks, GB |

Thanks, GB Rubbish. Is the terminal server going to be running Citrix, too? If so, your workstations can be as low powered as 486's running DOS with any crappy old video card. I know, I've done it and supported a 2 server farm with 150 clients. -- AZC --- *** Three steps to computer security: *** 1.
