Default Monthly Braodband Usage Monitor...

I keep getting stung by my monthly limit on broadband...

Is there any (Decent) software out there that lives in my taskbar and
monitors my internet usage

I;m after somthing that gives me a daily, weekly and monthly download usage
and logs it for a upto 12 months.

I don't want any fancy graphics, somthing that looks like windows it
perfectly fine.

It has to be FREEWARE. I'm not using somthing for 30 days then it stop
working, or somthing that does not have all the features and pester me to
buy the full version.

Also i'm not after somthing that downloads other software like weatherbug
and all that crpa that I do not need.

Surely there must be somthing out there...

I use BM Extreme...

http://www.lp23.com/bmextreme/

Tells me what's what, as it were, in a no-nonsense sort of way...

There's a pay version as well, although I haven't found a need
for anything more than the free one gives me.

Monitor it FROM one of the PCs? No.
It can't be done with a hardware router unless the router
implicitly supports the feature through it's firmware.
Setting up a (system-as-a-router) might be a possibility.

what happens if u shutdown ur pc? does it store the bandwidth and monitor it
even if u switch off PC?

if i have a network and use PC as gateway and only install monitor on pc it
will monitor all internet traffic, including the usage coming from the other
machine/notebooks on the network?

Umm... No! If you shut down the PC upon which the app is
installed, you will shut down the app as well.

I've never encountered software that can monitor a router's WAN
bandwidth usage from the router itself, independently of a PC...

(Granted, I've never looked for such software...

Hi,

I'm the guy who created BMExtreme (for what it's worth) - thanks
Martin for mentioning it

Anyway, I just wanted to mention that with the either the home or
professional version - with BMExtreme on separate computers it can
add the bandwidth together and show how much each computer is using.
An example screen shot of this can be seen
here.
Of note, separate licenses would be needed for each computer and the
professional version can show the stats of each computer through the
web as well.

I do believe there is software out there that can get the info from
the router itself but have no experience with them myself so I'm not
exactly sure how well they work.

Luigi
