Default playcenter met files

What is the met file that playcenter creates when ripping? there is one for
each song with the name. I use winamp to play back and dont experience any
problems when deleted, but would like to know what they do for the
playcenter.

I've noticed these files after ripping a CD.
I'd guess they're files containing meta-data about the track(s).

Martin.
