Default Why can't UK companies do this well?

On Friday quite late in the evening I ordered some battery chargers
from www.mahaenergy.com, it was around 3pm in California. They were
despatched the same day around 4pm and arrived on my doorstep in the
UK this morning at about 8:30am. Delivery charge was $25.

Why can't UK companies manage this sort of efficiency? I've had
similar well priced and prompt deliveries from the US before but this
one was just about the fastest.

(Not to mention that the battery chargers are a bargain compared with
similar intelligent chargers here in Europe - international power
supply too)

I've had the same experience with books I've ordered from the USA, one took two
days door to door, I was quoted £50 for the book from Amazon UK and got it from
a USA bookseller via Amazon USA for $17 + $7 delivery. Of course that's why
retailers call GB "Treasure Island"

I ordered my Maha charger from www.mahaenergy.co.uk it cost me less than
ordering overseas and it came the next day. Given that most stuff I order
online from the UK arrives the next day except when it isn't in stock I
don't really know what you are on about.

Lots of UK companies do.
Many offer next day delivery on in-stock items without any premium shipping
chage.
And some dont.
No doubt some US companies don't either.
What's your point?

Most stuff you order online arrives the next day? Lucky man! I buy a good
selection of stuff online and these days I'm grateful if it arrives the same
week, even if it's ostensibly listed as being in stock. For instance I've just
received an email saying the *in stock* vehicle parts I ordered for next day
delivery last Friday won't arrive till the end of this week. Meanwhile my
thermal underwear is two weeks overdue.

Lots of UK companies do.

They may *offer* it but it isn't usually what you get, at least if you live out
in the sticks.

Well given that the physical delivery of the item to an address in the UK is
going to use exactly the same set of delivery companies whether it was
shipped from the US or the UK, I can't see how this makes any difference.
If you live in the sticks and get poor service from the delivery companies
then that's a consequence of living in the sticks, not the efficiency of the
retailer in the US or UK.

Or perhaps someone flies over from the US with the parcel and drives to your
door :-)

Or perhaps unlike a lot of UK suppliers they use a decent end to end
international carrier; ie not ****tylink or ParcelFarce.

I didn't know they had a UK site! :-)

However the prices are still much higher in the UK, they are one to
one pounds to dollars. For the chargers I bought it was cheaper to
buy from the USA.

While *some* UK suppliers are OK (I use Screwfix a lot for example)
I've found that US suppliers seem to be consistently better.

It is noticeable that we see few complaints in this group about DHL,
TNT or UPS.
